DOUGLAS COUNTY SPEEDWAY
SIGNS 2007 ASA NORTHWEST TOUR EVENT
March 2, 2007 - Douglas County Speedway an ASA
Member Track in Roseburg, Ore., has signed on with the ASA Northwest
Tour.
The Windmill Inns 250 will be held at Douglas County Speedway on
July 28, melding a 150-lap ASA Northwest Tour race and the
Northstate Challenge Series 100 for a historic night on the Douglas
County pavement.
"We have been talking with the series officials for quite some time
and we are finally able to put it all together," track operator Adam
Nelson said of landing the ASA Northwest Tour date.
The doubleheader late model stock car tour events will be backed up
by the crash 'em smash 'em Oregon Tool J' Cars, plus Mini Stocks and
the Taco Bell Hornets.
Gates will open at 4 p.m. with racing starting at 6 p.m.
Adult admission will be $20, seniors get in for $15, children ages
7-13 are admitted for $5 each, and kids 6-and-younger are free. All
ages can save $2 on admission with a $2 off BI-MART coupon.
"We're trying to provide a treat for racing fans here in Roseburg,"
Nelson said. "The Northwest Tour hasn't been to the speedway in over
six years, and Northstate hasn't been to the speedway since 2003 or
2004.
"There is a contingent of local late models here in Roseburg that
look like they have what it takes to compete in either series, and
I'm excited to see if we can put a local name in the Seven Feathers
Hotel & Casino Winner Circle.
Nelson said the night of racing is a win-win situation for everyone
involved, from the racing series to the Roseburg track to the
Roseburg fans.
"Along with giving the race fans what they are looking for, we get
to become part of the rebirth of the Northwest Tour and are happy to
partner with the tracks, drivers and fans that have continued the
spirit of the Tour," he said.
The addition of the Douglas County Speedway date gives the ASA
Northwest Tour a total of eight races at five different tracks.
Other races are scheduled for Washington state ovals Yakima Speedway
and South Sound Speedway near Seattle, as well as Stateline Stadium
and Speedway (Post Falls) and Meridian Speedway in Idaho.
Said Ron Bennett, series administrator: “ We are very happy to have
these track operators and owners to help make sure the Northwest
Tour is here for the long haul. With the addition of ASA and these
and other tracks showing interest, the future that looked so bleak
just a few short weeks ago, now looks better than ever."
Bennett said officials are continuing to obtain a points fund,
contingency prizes and sponsorship funding for the exciting upcoming
season.
