ASA NORTHWEST TOUR PLEASE READ It is the obligation of each participant to insure that his conduct and equipment comply with all applicable rules as they may be amended from time to time. No expressed or implied warranty OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATION OF OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES. These rules are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and in no way guarantee against injury or death to participants, spectators or others. The Northwest Tour officials reserve the right to refuse entry to any event under their jurisdiction. ANY QUESTIONS BEYOND THE SCOPE OF THESE RULES MUST BE APPROVED BY SERIES OFFICIALS. The intent is to allow a wider scope of chassis and engine combinations and equipment in the Northwest Series. Inspections, etc. will remain the same as 2007. COMPETING MODELS; Limited to American-made passenger car production sedans with minimum wheelbase no less than 101 inches and no more than 105 inches. No convertibles, station wagons, trucks or 4-wheel drives.
ENGINES; ENGINE COMBINATIONS ALLOWED TOUR 9.5 TO 1 ROLLER CAM ALUMINUM HEADS COMPRESSION ENGINES BRODIX SPEC HEADS OR STEEL HEADS (NON PORTED) ROLLER CAM OR FLAT TAPPET CAMSHAFT CRATE ENGINES 604 Stock production with standard external measurements in all respects. Engine location must be centered within 3 inches of the tread width of the car. This will be measured from the outermost point of the front tires. Engine must be located so the center of the forward-most sparkplug hole is no farther than two inches rearward of the centerline of the upper ball joints. Ford and Chrysler engines are allowed 3 inch set back. Crankshafts height is minimum of 10 at 4 frame height. Tour 9 to 1 engines No aluminum blocks. Aluminum heads of OEM designs only. Only 23-degree heads allowed on GM products. No SB2 heads, GM splayed heads, 14 degree or Buick heads allowed 1. Any crankshaft (no titanium), camshaft and camshaft drive allowed. Any approved high-rise intake manifold allowed. 2. Mechanical fuel pump only, must be stock type and stock mounting position. No electric pumps or pressure type systems allowed. 3. Dry sump oiling systems allowed. Dry sump pumps up to a maximum of 5 stages. Oil pan clearance a minimum of 3 inches. 4. V-8 engines only. 5. Pistons Aluminum allowed 6. Maximum compression ratio allowed is 9.5:1 on all cylinders for Tour engines with roller camshaft. Open compression for Brodix spec head and steel head engines. Crate engines must remain sealed. 7. Carburetor Holley 390 CFM list #6895 - Carb boosters may be modified in the following manner Booster bars may be removed, booster length must be no shorter than .700 inside booster dia. of no more than .480. Boosters may be tapered from center seam down.. Boosters may not be relocated - 8. One aluminum adapter, (spacer), maximum of one inch total thickness allowed. Only two gaskets allowed with a maximum thickness of .050. Spacer must be straight cut with no taper. 9. Air cleaner required. Must be 360 degrees open. Deflector allowed on front 180 degrees. Cold air boxes are allowed. No tubes, ducting or ram air. Dry paper filter elements only. 10. Must have approved throttle stop. 11. Any rocker arm. 12. Distributor Must be in stock location.
Cast Iron head engines; 1. Cylinder heads must be approved by ASA officials. Approved heads are GM Bowtie and Vortex, Dart iron Eagle and Platinum 200s, World Products Sportsman II, Ford Motor sports and Mopar W-2. No cylinder head is approved with over 200cc. as manufactured. Heads must remain untouched with all casting markings intact. Heads must check within 10ccs of manufactured, stated volume. Allowance is made for valve replacement and casting variances only. NO porting, polishing, acid dipping or port matching allowed. 2. Cylinder heads must remain within .100 inch of external factory dimensions. 3. Exhaust flange may not be cut into casting. 4. Any valve material allowed. 5. Cylinder head dowels must be straight and not relocated or offset. 6. Adding material to cylinder head not allowed. 7. Compression ratio open. 8. Open carb. 9. Carb spacer, air cleaner, throttle stop etc. rules are the same for all engine combinations. 10. Flat tappet or roller camshaft allowed.
Brodix Spec Head Engines; 1. Part numbers Brodix SP Ch for GM, SP Fo for Ford and SP Mo for Mopar allowed. 2. All heads will be supplied with bowl blend and intake port matching. 3. No use of any substance that may change or alter the size of ports or combustion chamber is allowed. 4. No grinding or blending of CNC work allowed. 5. No grinding or polishing of any kind allowed on castings. 6. Maximum valve size of 2.080 intake and 1.600 exhaust will be allowed on all spec heads. 7. Valve seats and guides are to remain in as manufactured and in as cast positions. 8. Valve angles are to remain as manufactured. The original seat centers locations as provided by head manufacturer, may not be altered. 9. No tapering or reshaping of valve guides allowed. 10. Cylinder heads may not be angled milled. Minimum combustion chamber volume will be 60cc. 11. Minimum valve stem diameter is 11/32. 12. Spec cylinder heads serial numbers must remain on the head and not defaced or altered. 13. No welding modifications allowed to original castings. 14. Any valve material allowed. 15. Any damage repair done to spec cylinder heads must be approved by Tour officials before head is installed back on an engine for competition. 16. Compression ratio open. Same carb spacer etc. rules apply. 17. Flat tappet or roller camshaft allowed. 18. Open carb.
CAR WEIGHTS; 1. TOUR ENGINES BRODIX SPEC HEADS- STEEL HEAD ENGINES PERIMITER CHASSIS -2900 lbs. with driver. Maximum of 58.0% left side; race ready with fuel on board. TOUR ENGINES BRODIX SPEC HEADS STEEL HEAD ENGINES STRAIGHT RAIL CHASSIS 2950 LBS. Maximum of 58% left side CRATE ENGINE 604 engine 2600 LBS* Maximum of 58% left side 2. All cars up to have 65 tread width any car over 65, up to a maximum of 67 wide, will have a weight penalty of up to 50 lbs. at officials discretion. 3. No titanium and/or exotic materials, products, parts, or components allowed on car unless specified in the rules. No gun-drilled, tubular or hollow bolts or studs allowed.
FUEL AND FUEL CELL: 1. Must be soft-type bladder fuel cells, 22 gallon maximum, and must be enclosed in an approved steel container of no less than 20 gauge metal, with lid and drain holes in bottom. Cell must have approved rollover valve. Must have approved vent tube of the flapper type. Minimum ground clearance of 10 inches required at 4-inch frame height. 2. Must have a safety loop designed to protect the rear of the cell. 3. Fuel cell must be mounted in a safe manner and approved by Tour officials, including reinforcement plates on front and rear of container. Contact Tour officials with any questions regarding installation and materials. 4. No nitrous oxide. 5. Tour officials will randomly test fuel. Fuel shall not be blended with alcohol, ethers, or other oxygenates and shall not be blended with anine, or its derivatives, nitro compounds, or other oxygen containing compounds. Limited to 1% per volume of alkines in fuel.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS; 1. Battery powered ignition systems only. 2. Distributor may be modified. No crank triggered ignitions. Dual point and electronic ignition systems allowed. Ignition amplifier boxes and RPM limiters must be of analog design and do not contain programmable, computerized or memory circuits. 3. Distributor must maintain the same firing order as a factory produced engine for make and model. 4. No magnetos, digital gauges or traction control devices. NOTE; Any competitor caught with traction control will be disqualified and banned from competition in the series for no less than 1 year. 5. Ignition boxes must have no more than six (6) pins. Only one coil per ignition box allowed. 6. Self-starter must be in working order. 7. Only one battery allowed. Battery must be in the fuel cell area and securely mounted and covered to prevent spillage if inverted. 8. Alternators approved.

A battery
master switch must be mounted and properly labeled, on/off. Must be
mounted to be easily reached by driver and/or safety people. COOLING SYSTEMS; 1. Any radiator may be used, must remain in stock location. 2. Hood must close with no bowing. 3. Coolant permitted - NO ETHYLENE GLYCOL. 4. Electric fans approved. 5. Stock type water pumps only, no electric pumps.
EXHAUST; 1. All cars must have mufflers. Maximum four (4) inch exhaust pipe must exit out right door past driver a minimum of 12 inches. 2. ALL CARS MUST MEET LOCAL TRACK DBA RULES OR 98@75 FEET WHICHEVER IS LOWER. NO EXCEPTIONS. THE MAXIMUM MUFFLER AND EXHAUST PIPE SIZE IS FOUR (4) INCHES.
CLUTCH AND BELLHOUSING; 1. Multiple disc clutches allowed. Minimum diameter is 5 1/2 inches. Only magnetic steel discs and pressure plates allowed. Clutch cover and housing may be aluminum or steel. 2. Must have approved SEMA, NHRA or NASCAR approved bell housing. 3. Must have access hole to accommodate turning engine over by hand for compression testing.
TRANSMISSION; 1. Standard type transmissions only. No direct couplers etc. Must have two forward and one reverse gear in working order. 2. Automatic transmissions not allowed. 3. Drivelines may be steel or aluminum only. All drivelines must be approved by series tech. Drivelines must be painted white. NO CARBON FIBER DRIVELINES Two driveline loops of no less than 2 inches wide and Ό inch thick, must be installed and capable of containing driveline in the case of driveline and/or universal failure.
REARENDS; 1. Rear ends may be interchanged between manufacturers. Quick change rears and coolers allowed. 2. Rear end tubes must be steel. 3. Spur gears, lower jack shaft, drive shaft yoke, axles and spindles must be magnetic. 4. Locked or unlocked differentials allowed. 5. Differential oil coolers allowed. 6. Cambered rear axle housings are permitted. Maximum camber allowed is one and a half degrees (1 ½) degree positive or negative with car sitting on scales in race trim. 7. Steel or rubberized drive plates may be used.
FRAMES; 1. Frames must be fabricated from mild steel and center section must have perimeter dimension of 10 inches. Minimum thickness of 0.120 inch wall. 2. Fabricated or stock clip allowed. 3. Can be perimeter or straight rail design frames. A perimeter frame chassis is defined as having left and right center section frame rails symmetrical within 1 inch. 4. Minimum ground clearance is four (4) inches for all body panels and frame. 5. Front cross member must have a minimum of three (3) inch ground clearance. 6. Main frame rail members shall be constructed so that the side rails are located within the normal tread width of the car. Right side frame rail may be of perimeter or straight rail design. 7. The left main center section frame rail on a straight rail design chassis must measure 10 inches minimum from the left front (front clip) frame rail. 8. All frames must be approved by Tour officials.
SUSPENSION; 1. Weight jacks allowed. No suspension adjustment devices in driver compartment. 2. Only linear wound springs allowed. Barrel type allowed. No progressive wound springs. Only one spring per shock. 3. Front sway bar may be custom and adjustable. 4. Any front spindle allowed. Hub tethers recommended. 5. Custom hubs and spindle adapters allowed. 6. No independent rear ends. 7. A frames may be custom manufactured. 8. Wheels studs must be minimum of 5/8 inch. 9. No electronic suspension checking or measuring devices allowed. On board computers not allowed on race days. 10. No air, spring, or hydraulic trailing arms allowed. Must be solid bar type.
SHOCKS; 1. Maximum one shock per wheel. 2. Coil over shocks allowed. 3. No shocks that may be adjusted by driver in drivers compartment.
WHEELS; 1. Maximum wheel width is ten (10) inches. 2. Steel wheels only. 3. No safety bead wheels allowed. 4. Wheels may be of 5 on 5 design or wide 5. Must meet minimum weight rule of wide 5, 17 lbs and 5 on 5 of 20 lbs. 5. All wheels must have equal offset. 6. Maximum spacer allowed is 3/8 inch. 7. Maximum track width front and rear is 65 inches. SEE EXCEPTION UNDER CAR WEIGHTS 8. Bleeders not allowed. Bleeder holes may be filled with valve stem.
STEERING; 1. A steel quick release wheel mandatory. 2. Steering box type is open. 3. Tie rods, drag links, pitman arm etc. may be interchanged. See 2006 rule book for acceptable material. Steel only, no aluminum or similar material allowed in steering components. 4. Center of steering wheel must be padded.
BRAKES; 1. Any 4- wheel disc brake combination allowed. 2. No electronic brake actuators allowed. 3. Power assisted brake systems not permitted. 4. Proportioning valves allowed.
BODIES AND CHASSIS; 1. All cars must have 2000 or later ABC Tour style straight up body or approved ABC offset. All bodies must fit templates. All bodies must be approved by Tour officials. 2. Bodies may be aluminum, light alloys, or fiberglass. 3. Hoods may not be bowed. Rear opening of hood to be no longer than 20 wide by 2 1/2 deep with a 2 deflector mounted to the trailing edge. 4. Floor must be steel and completely enclosed. 5. Firewall front and rear must be sealed to prevent fire etc. from entering drivers area. 6. Front nose have minimum ground clearance of four (4) inches and not extend more than 45 inches from center of spindle. Fender flares cannot extend past the outside edge of the tire with the steering in a straight - ahead position. Subject to tech approval. 7. A non-adjustable spoiler not exceeding 6 1/2 inches in height and 60 inches in total length may be attached to rear deck lid. No forward leading panels, wires and no wicker bills. Spoiler must be of a clear polycarbonate material. Must have a minimum of six (6) rear supports. 8. Templates will be used and bodies must meet specifications. Quarter panels must measure 33 1/2 to 34 1/2 on left and 34 1/2 to 35 1/2 on the right, measured at the spoiler. 9. Roof height is 47 to be measured 10 behind top edge of windshield. 10. Rear end cover must be closed in and stock appearing. Trimming bottom of rear bumper cover and/or quarter panels not allowed. 11. The hood must have positive pull pin type fasteners with 4 pin fasteners on the leading edge. Rear deck lid to be preferably hinged or pinned but can be riveted to body.
FIRE WALLS AND INTERIOR 1. Interior of car must be completely enclosed in respect to engine compartment, track surface, and wheel wells. The area immediately beneath the driver (floor) and the vertical panels surrounding the seat area (front and rear tunnel) must be constructed of a minimum 18 gauge (.047 inch) steel and be of the welded construction. Other interior panels may be steel or aluminum with minimum of .040 thickness. GLASS; 1. Windshield, rear window, side windows must be replace with lexan. 2. Front and rear glass must be strapped with at least two 1 wide steel or aluminum straps. 3. Side windows are permitted and may use up to 1/3 of the opening between the A post and the B post area but cannot stick outside the body more than 1 inch.
ROLLBARS; 1. Full steel roll cage required. 2. Material must be 1 3/4, .095 seamless tubing. 3. All contact areas in driver compartment must be covered with high density padding. 4. A minimum of 4 horizontal bars, three curved, with six vertical bars, (2 between each horizontal bar) with steel gussets is required in the drivers door. 5. It is mandatory to have 16 gauge metal welded between door bars or a 16 gauge plate 40 inches in length and 17 inches high minimum, welded between the door bars and the drivers door. 6. The right side door shall have 3 horizontal bars, straight or curved. 7. Total height of roll cage to be 40 ½ in. from bottom of frame. Halo to be no less than 1 inch lower. 8. There must be a piece of tubing welded diagonally or perpendicular between halo and top of roll cage. 9. Minimum height of door bars on drivers side is 22 ½ inches from bottom of frame. 10. A Petty Bar must run between center of cage and upper right front halo. 11. Width of halo at a minimum of 44 inches for perimeter chassis and 32 inches on straight rail design chassis. Measurement taken from outside to outside of tubing.
SEATS AND SEAT BELTS; 1. Approved racing seats only. Must have approved metal mounting frame bolted or welded to roll cage in such a fashion as to move with cage in the event of a crash. 2. Padded head rest mandatory. Leg restraints recommended. 3. A 5 - point S.F.I. approved harness with three inch lap and shoulder belts and a two inch sub belt is mandatory. Belts must be in excellent shape. Belts must be attached in an approved manner with a minimum 3/8, grade 5 bolts. 4. All belts must have a Tour approved release. All belts must show the manufacturer date. Any belt not showing the date will be considered out of date. All belts must not be used past a 5 year date of manufacture.
FIRE CONTROL AND SAFETY; 1. A fully charged five-pound on board fire system with at least two nozzles is mandatory. Gauge must be easy to read. 2. Nomex-type uniform, racing shoes, gloves, socks are mandatory. Nomex underwear is required with a single layer suit. 3. Full face helmets required. 4. Helmets must be SA 2000/ SA 2005 certified and legible sticker is mandatory. No m type or D.O.T. or A.S.I. Z90 helmets allowed without accompanying certified Snell sticker. 5. Hans or a Hutchins device is required and must be worn at all times competitor is on the racing surface. 6. Window nets are required. The window net must be securely fastened at the bottom and have a quick release fastener at the one end in reach of the driver. Window net must be of the Ύ inch strap design. 7. All pit areas must have a five lb. fire extinguisher in the immediate pit area. 8. Cars must have a spotter any time car is on the track.
TIRES;
1.
The
racing tire for 2008 will be the Hoosier 2045. The tire will be supplied
by Tom Elam at each race. Cost will be $126.
RADIOS; 1. All cars must have 2-way radio communication between driver and crew. Teams must have a scanner to monitor Tour officials to communicate between driver and officials.
ILLEGAL PARTS; 1. Any part found illegal will be confiscated and become the property of Northwest Tour. 2. Any competitor found to have an illegal part will not be allowed to compete in any Tour event until that part is surrendered to Tour officials.
APPEARANCE; 1. All cars must be neatly lettered. Side and roof numbers at least 18 inches high and 3 inches wide. Numbers must be on both doors and roof. Small (6 in.) numbers on right front headlight area and left rear taillight area. 2. Front fender area for approved decals only. 3. Side numbers must be located no farther back than rear edge of door panel. No sponsor or other lettering allowed in front of side number. 4. Lettering across top of windshield not allowed. 5. ASA Northwest Tour reserves the right to mandate decals and approved location of all decals. *Revisions in effect: January 17, 2007 Engines; Cold air boxes are allowed. Rearends;
